A lighting and CCTV column one person can put up. Four bolts, no crane.

The Hardie Column is a 150 mm aluminium column that weighs a fraction of steel. Bolt the base to a concrete pad, drop the top section into the hinged collar, swing it upright and lock it with security bolts. Made in Bedfordshire, UKCA certified, projected life beyond 35 years.

What you avoid with a Hardie Column

  • Hiab or mobile crane one person raises it
  • Excavated root foundation four bolts to a pad
  • Five to ten on the crew a column of 6 to 12 kg
  • Replacing steel at 25 years 35-year projected life
How it goes up

Installed in three moves, by one person

  1. Installer feeding the column shaft into the tilted hinged collar on top of the base section

Bolt the base, open the collar

The base section bolts to a concrete pad with four anchor bolts. The black collar on top hinges back so the shaft can be fed in by hand.

  2. One installer swinging the Hardie column shaft up to vertical

    Swing it upright

With the end of the shaft seated in the collar, one person walks it up to vertical. The collar is the pivot, so the weight is never carried at arm's length.

  3. Fully erected Hardie Column with the collar closed

    Lock it with security bolts

The collar closes and is fastened with security bolts, so the column can be left in a public space. Fit the lantern or camera and connect up through the base door.

Where the saving is

Most of the cost of a column is getting it in the ground. We took that out.

A steel column needs a lorry-mounted crane, a deep concrete root, traffic management and a crew of five to ten. The Hardie Column needs a pad, four bolts and one person with a van. Hardie has shown installation savings of up to 75% against the traditional method.

Who it's for

One column, five kinds of site

The same 150 column carries a street lantern, a flood light, a PTZ camera or all three. Pick the page that matches your site.

Homes, driveways and private estates

Light a long drive or a gateway, or get a camera up high where it can see, without a contractor's crane on the lawn. One column, one visit, no road closure.

Aluminium extrusion, anodised, made to be handled

The base is a 150 mm extruded section with a flush inspection door and a four-bolt flange. Above the hinged collar the column tube tapers to 76 mm, made to order in heights up to 6 metres. Aluminium does not rust through the way steel does: surface oxide stops at the surface, which is why the projected life is beyond 35 years.
