The Hardie Column
A two-part aluminium column. A short extruded base section bolts down; the column tube drops into a hinged collar on top and swings upright. That hinge is what lets one person install it, and what lets you lower the head to swap a lantern or camera years later without plant.

The collar is the pivot
On top of the base section sits a black cast top plate. Hinged to it is a short collar that the column tube seats into. Tilt the collar back, feed in the end of the tube, and the whole column can be walked up to vertical by one person because the pivot is doing the work.
Once upright the collar closes flat and is fastened with security bolts. The column cannot be lifted out or tilted without the right tooling, which is what makes it suitable for public spaces as well as private ground.
- Hinged, security-bolted collar
- Flush inspection door in the base with its own fixing
- Cable route from the base door up through the collar to the head
- Lower the column to change the head; no crane for the lifetime of the column

What you gain
- Light enough for one person to carry and raise
- Does not rust through: the oxide layer is skin deep and protects the metal
- Projected life over 35 years, more than three times a steel column
- Fully recyclable without losing its properties
- Short UK supply chain, so lead times are weeks not months
What it is not
- Not a telescopic or temporary mast; it is a permanent column
- Not a replacement for a highway column above 6 metres
- Not supplied with a lantern or camera unless you ask; we fit what you specify
- Not a self-install kit for the electrics; a qualified electrician makes the connection
Before you order
- How much weight can it carry at the top?
- Enough for LED lanterns, flood lights and PTZ cameras in normal combinations. Tell us what you want to mount and the site exposure and we will confirm the head load for the height you need. We load-test columns in the workshop.
- What does the base need?
- A level concrete pad and four anchor bolts through the flange plate. Most sites use an existing slab or a small cast pad; there is no deep root excavation.
- Can it really go up with one person?
- Yes. The column weighs 6 to 12 kg on average and the hinged collar takes the load while it is walked up. Two people make it quicker, and the second person is useful for the cabling.
- Is it secure in a public place?
- The collar is fastened with security bolts once upright and the base door has its own fixing. It is designed to be left in car parks, paths and public spaces.
- What heights do you make?
- Custom heights to order up to 6 metres. Tell us the mounting height you need for the lantern or camera and we will build to it.
- Do you supply the lantern or camera?
- We can supply LED lanterns and post-top adaptors, or fit the camera or flood you already have. Many customers have their electrician or CCTV installer fit the head once the column is up.
- Do you install?
- We can install, recommend an installer near you, or simply ship the column with the fixing kit and the manual. Most customers find their usual electrician or groundworker can do it.
